Showcasing Classified Point Clouds with Confidence

Classified point clouds are one of the most powerful resources in reality capture, yet they rarely get the spotlight they deserve. At NUBIGON, we want to change that.

Why Classification Matters

Point cloud classification—organizing points by categories like ground, vegetation, and buildings—is critical in many workflows. It enhances visual clarity, enables better filtering, and is often essential for downstream tasks like modeling, asset management, or analysis.

From surveying and mapping to urban planning, environmental studies, and infrastructure design, classification helps professionals understand complex environments faster.

But it’s no secret: achieving well-classified datasets can be time-intensive. Whether you’re automating the process or manually correcting misclassified points, it demands serious effort, experience, and resources.

So Why Don’t We See It More?

Despite their value, classified point clouds are rarely featured in project showcases. Most presentations still rely on uniform point cloud visuals—and software is a big reason why. Classification tools often lack strong presentation features, while rendering tools rarely focus on classified point cloud data. As a result, all the effort to classify data often stays behind the scenes—rarely acknowledged by clients and stakeholders.

Make Classification Part of the Story

NUBIGON's mission is to help you present your projects with clarity and confidence. That includes giving proper space to your classified data.

We’ve just released a brand-new tutorial on animating classified point clouds—so you can show the full potential of your work.

Two Stunning Examples

Here are two standout client videos that use NUBIGON’s powerful rendering tools to bring classified point clouds into the foreground:

A Historic Church by Edwin Boér

This is a beautiful project video by Edwin Boér, an architect turned point cloud expert, showing his team’s work at LARKI. The team used a Leica RTC360 to scan a historic church. They rendered the data in NUBIGON using a rich combination of tools: display mode variations, clip animations, and—most strikingly—animated point cloud classes.

With NUBIGON’s flexible rendering options, you can communicate complex site data and present point clouds and architectural models side by side—seamlessly.

A Bus Depot Survey by Geodezie Plch

In this project, Geodezie Plch demonstrates a classified point cloud of a bus depot in Hustopeče, Czech Republic, as part of a site redevelopment project. Captured with DJI Mavic 3E photogrammetry and traditional survey tools, the classified point cloud helps manage the complexity of a busy, vehicle-heavy site. Though the primary deliverable was a DWG map, the point cloud—and its classification—proved invaluable for navigating and documenting site conditions.

Whether you’re scanning cultural landmarks or urban infrastructure, classified point clouds deserve to be part of your story. With NUBIGON, they finally can be.
